What is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine is a whole body, personalized, systems approach focused on determining the root causes of imbalances in the body. We continually ask the question "why" and work towards creating balance, restoration, and optimization. The focus is on lifestyle and dietary interventions along with targeted supplements, and sometimes the use of prescription medications when needed. The body has an innate ability to heal itself, and our goal is to help you unlock your body’s potential.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I am not contracted or in network with any health insurance companies, including Medicare. This allows me to keep my prices reasonable and serve you better. I really try to be mindful of costs and your budget.

I can provide a superbill at the end of each visit that you can submit to your insurance company to see if you qualify for out-of-network benefits. HSA/FSA can be used to pay for services. A card on file is required prior to your first appointment.

  • Initial Consult (60 min) - $300: This is a 60 minute adult or pediatric consultation. During this visit we will discuss your health history, symptoms, goals, and any recommended tests, supplements or medications. Ideal for new patients looking for help with hormone health, gut health, autoimmune conditions, thyroid conditions, mold toxicity, PCOS, endometriosis, etc. Please schedule a 6 week Initial Follow-up at the same time.We can always adjust this appointment if it is not needed.

Initial Follow-up (45 min) - $225: This is a 45 minute follow-up visit scheduled after the initial consult. This visit is required within 4-6 weeks of your initial consult. During this visit patients will review any blood work and functional tests results (e.g. stool, urine, saliva) and discuss.  Patients will review their treatment plan with the provider at this appointment as well.

Follow-up (45 min) - $200: This is a 45 minute follow up after the first two visits (initial consult and initial follow-up). During this visit the patient will  review progress and the treatment plan with the provider; making adjustments as necessary. Additional lab results and Functional Tests results may be reviewed at this time.

Follow-up (30 min) - $150: This is a 30 minute follow-up visit scheduled by the Provider to evaluate an established treatment plan and make minor adjustments as necessary. Online scheduling not available for these appointments.

Portal Messages - $20 - $60: Messages requiring up to 15 minutes of work will be charged for the time incurred to respond at the rate of $300/hour. Inquiries requiring more than 15 minutes will need to make an appointment.

  • I offer both in person and virtual visits.

  • I am currently licensed to practice medicine in the following states:

    Minnesota

    Wisconsin

    Iowa

  • Unfortunately, no. I am not available for medical issues in the evenings, weekends or holidays and do not offer acute visits or medication management (outside of medications I prescribe for you). You will still need to have an established primary care provider for your other healthcare needs.

  • If you would like to use your insurance for labs you will be sent an order through your patient portal. This order can be taken to your local clinic and the results will be sent back to me. Please check on your insurance coverage for labs prior to your first visit. I run very extensive and thorough lab panels that can end up costing patients >$2000 even with insurance.

If you prefer to not use your insurance (which can be the cheaper option depending on your coverage) I can send you a kit through Access Medical Labs. The kit can then be taken to your local clinic or phlebotomy center and you can have your blood drawn, often for a small fee. The results from the kit will then come directly to me.

Average cost of an in-depth panel including around 20 different markers through Access Medical Labs (bypassing insurance) is often $400 or less.

Meet your Provider

Serenity Integrative Health specializes in truly listening to patients and providing healthcare through functional medicine modalities that result in optimized health.

  • I have been a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner since 2009. After practicing for five years, I looked for more tools when caring for patients, and that is where I found my passion and interest in Functional Medicine.

For a decade, I immersed myself in education within holistic health, and saw an entire world open in front of me. My clinical background has afforded me the breadth and depth of knowledge; when you partner with each individual taking the time to understand the root cause, the options for healing are incredible, which also supports empowerment. I believe the patient/provider relationship is a powerful tool in the health journey. It’s such an honor to develop meaningful connections with my patients.

In early 2021, I got back to my passion for supporting people, but this time would be different. I completed the Institute for Functional Medicine Program in 2022 to obtain formal training beyond what I already knew. I’m so excited about this next chapter of serving families as a functional medicine practitioner!

In my personal life, I am married to my high school sweetheart. We live in rural Wisconsin and I love staying busy with gardening, baking, and cooking. My husband and I also have 3 children and I homeschool them. I love spending time at our cabin in the summer and fitness/nutrition is a large part of my life.

“Patients want to be able to express themselves fully and have a partner in their health.”
